Guide to Sta Gertrudis, (Santa Gertrudis De Fruitera)
Santa Gertrudis still retains the charm of a true Ibicencan town and is full of reminders of its heritage. The town’s main income used to be from farming, however they quickly adapted during the tourist boom of the 1960s, and it has kept a ’hippy’ feel to it ever since. Even today it’s possible to lose yourself among the un-surfaced tracks and discover a taste of rural Ibiza from years gone by.
Santa Gertrudis is a popular hotspot for artists and alongside the dedicated art galleries, many of the bars (Bar Costa) boast walls full of interesting and intricate artwork. If you enjoy hunting down unique and exquisite items, then the Casi Todo auction house could just be the place for you. Located in the centre of Santa Gertrudis, you can bid for a wide range of items, from the ordinary to the outrageous. One of the main focal points in the town is the church. Originally opened in 1797, it has seen several modifications over the years, including the addition of the bell tower during the 19th century.
